PERSONALITY

[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"]A sheer optimist and opportunist; James is the type of person who will see boundaries and restrictions in a way of mere hurdles to challenge and overcome. Once he sets his sights on an end result; there is little that can stagger him from finishing what he has set out to do, even if his efforts are in vain. James often suffers from over-confidence and over estimates his abilities, which can cause him a whole world of trouble and hurt at the expense of others as well as himself. Rather cocky and certainly not humble; his recklessness and moments of stupidity can lead him to unfortunate ends, and as a consequence he suffers mainly from regrets.

James is the type of person who is more bark than bite, so to speak, but that may be something that he can learn from as he moves into adulthood. He is friendly and loves to play around with people: teasing them as a sign of endearment and fondness. Despite he being far from cruel, James is very quick to judge people and is unforgiving of malice: whether that be those holier-than-thou Purebloods or pretentious bullies - he rarely looks at the bigger picture. A bully is a bully: there is no empathetic tale of woe behind it.

Extremely disorganised and rarely in good form, James can sometimes look a little scruffy - unlike his brother, Albus, who seems to be more elegant. As any big brother should be, James is protective and loving of his younger siblings; but he probably doesn't go the right way about helping them to combat their own problems (often suggesting quick vengeance by hexing instead of telling a Professor, for example). But hey - they love him for being a bit of a fool. He rather loves himself for being a bit of a fool - as he often shows off during Quidditch games.

He prefers Quidditch to his education, and only really makes an effort due to the watchful eye of his Mother and Aunt at the school. James has an awful lot to learn if he ever hopes of being close to his Father's talents: he clearly has little respect for school rules, is foolhardy and probably won't amount to much if he carries on the way he is going.

HISTORY

[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"]Born to Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley at the beginning of a new, celebrated era: James Sirius Potter was a child of joy. He understood very quickly that he was loved and adored: having a bountiful family of so many faces, James had never experienced feelings of loneliness and solitude as his Father had done. It was very clear that James was an active, inquisitive child who giggled at scolding and won around his parents just by being cute - but ever since he could crawl along the floor and developed a sense of self, he was causing trouble.

When he was three years old, James managed to get hold of his Father's wand and ended up turning his younger brother's face green. It was clear that, even though he was a very loving boy who treasured Albus as his brother since birth; there was a small amount of jealousy there. But it was very short-lived; particularly when his sister Lily came along - he felt compelled to unite all of them with games and tricks.

As James got older, he began to understand more of just how famous his Father was. Harry was always modest about his accomplishments as a teenager, and seemed to be more proud of his work as an Auror: nevertheless, the name 'Potter' came with unexpected rewards and appreciation from complete strangers. James always loved the attention. He especially loved being compared to his Father and his deceased Grandfather, James Potter Senior, who he was named after.

Clearly, he was meant for great things. Or so he thought.

Some could say that James's efforts were somewhat laughable. When he rode his first broomstick at the age of seven; he ended up hanging upside down from an apple tree. When he tried levitating things as a boy before Hogwarts, he managed to make the fruit bowl explode: amongst other household items. Even when Hogwarts came around and he was educated; he was never the first-class student that he believed his Father was or, indeed, that he believed he was.

He got his first wake-up call in the summer when he was nine. Lily was barely six, but he encouraged her to ride a broomstick with him in the fields surrounding their house. At night he pulled her out of bed, whispering for her to join him: they were to steal their Mother's broomstick for her and he would have his own, then they could fly together. Apart from going behind his parents' backs (and Albus's, as Lily expressed more of a desire to fly) - the entire ordeal turned sour as soon as she kicked off from the ground.

The broom was too big for her and she was too small. She ended up slipping off from it - fifteen feet in the air - and injuring her left arm. He never really let that down. Since then, he was a little more responsible, and certainly more protective of Lily. It probably affected him more than it affected her.

At Hogwarts, James was sorted into Gryffindor house. It didn't take him long to make friends, nor did it take him long to try out for Quidditch. He did try out in his first year (good old way-in-over-his-head James, eh?), but he didn't get the position. It was in his third year that he did secure the position of Chaser, however.

With his Aunt and Mother working at the school, James sometimes has a hard time trying to portray the 'cool guy'. He respects both of them as teachers, but has never felt entirely comfortable with them being professors. With James - it's a classic case of needing to grow up and learn. Learn from his mistakes, heed advice and more importantly; never let anyone else get hurt in his expense.
